- John Cena was the face of WWE and also main evented pay-per-view events
- He is now a full-time actor and does not compete in in-ring matches
- WWE TLC 2019 takes place this Sunday
John Cena is now a part-timer in WWE and his movie assignments have seen him miss the action for long. His commitment towards movies is now all set to bring an end to his long streak as well. Since 2002, Cena has competed in at least one pay-per-view event every year but that will end this Sunday. Cena isn’t advertised for TLC 2019 and his absence from the show will mark an end to his 17-year long streak.
He was to compete at Royal Rumble 2019, which took place in January, but was ruled out just before the event due to an ankle injury which he had suffered a couple of weeks before the pay-per-view event. As a regular in WWE, Cena main-evented Wrestlemanias and became the top star in the company but that is a thing of past.
Cena did make his comeback at Wrestlemania 35 but didn’t compete in a match. Bringing back his ‘Doctor of Thuganomics” gimmick, he interrupted Elias during his concert. He also appeared on Raw’s reunion in July but again, did not participate in a match.
The veteran WWE superstar is yet to retire from in-ring action but is unlikely to compete now. He might be missing TLC but will surely be back at Wrestlemania 36 in some capacity.
More matches to be added to TLC –
WWE will be adding some more matches to the TLC event. An article on the official website suggests that few more superstars will be competing on Sunday. Despite the company not divulging any information, the WWE Universe should not expect Cena to make a comeback as he does not have a storyline with any superstar.
Kevin Owens might face AOP or Seth Rollins in an impromptu match.
