Two days after singer Hema Sardesai came out in support of Anu Malik amid sexual harrasment allegations against the music director, Sona Mohapatra has raised her voice on social media. In an angry tweet, Sona criticised Hema for her “it takes two hands to clap” remark, by calling the former a “sick, silly woman”.
Sona gave a hard-hitting reply to Hema’s remark, saying “it takes two bodies to get raped, but that does not mean the person getting raped is to be blamed. (sic)”
Sharing an article on the micro-blogging platform, Sona wrote, “Somebody tell Ms Sardesai that yes, it takes two bodies to even get raped but that does not mean the person getting raped is to be blamed? Also, this is called victim shaming & it is the reason why minors, survivors & their families haven’t formally complained? Sick, Silly woman. (sic)”
Sona also shared singer Neha Bhasin’s recent tweet after Hema’s statement, and re-tweeted, “Neha, the minions of the patriarchy & perverts, people like Hema Sardesai don’t deserve even a mention here or anywhere in this discourse but it is obvious that they have popped up to serve the masters, shame the victims, survivors & bid to try weaken the Warriors! Won’t happen (sic).”
Earlier this week, Hema Sardesai wrote a long post on Instagram in support of Anu Malik.
Calling the post a “selfless” one, Hema wrote that Anu Malik gave her many blockbuster hit songs in her career, when she was struggling in the industry. In the post, Hema also said, “There is a great artiste in him who respected true talent.”
Hema, who is known for songs like Aawara Bhanwre, Jungle Hai Aadhi Raat Hai, Apun Bola and Badal Pe Paao Hain, to name a few, also raised a question on the women who accused Malik of sexual harassment, for not speaking up against Anu Malik when the incidents took place.
In an interview to India Today.in, Neha Bhasin, who recently came up with her story of being sexually harassed at the age of 21 by Malik, said that she had made the same statement last year too, but nobody paid heed to her.
Talking about Anu Malik’s exit from Indian Idol 11, Neha told us, “I really think Sony TV should answer this question. I don’t make decisions on behalf of the show. I spoke my part of the truth; my job is to bring my truth to the world in support of the people who have suffered even more than I have. Now, his fate is the decision of the society, and Sony TV should take a decision.”
I agee with you. We do live in a very sexist world. Anu Malik is a predetor, i too have run away from his strange moves when i was 21. I didn’t let myself get into a sticky situation beyond him lying on a sofa in front of me talking about my eyes in a studio. I fleed lying https://t.co/tQgStLrYyT

Not only Sona and Neha, singers like Shweta Pandit and Alisha Chinai have also accused Anu Malik of sexually harassing them. While Shweta shared her story last year, Alisha also agreed that the allegations against Anu were true, as she had also faced a similar experience back in 1996.
In 2018, Anu Malik had to step down as a judge on the reality TV show Indian Idol 10.
However, this year, Anu Malik’s comeback on Indian Idol 11 on the judge panel shocked many people, reigniting the debate on his presence on the panel. Sona, Neha and several others questioned Sony TV about the music director’s presence as a judge on the show.
Reports now say that Anu Malik might have to leave Indian Idol 11.
